About

This exhibition brings together a diverse range of paintings and posters on paper for the first time.
The display takes the form of a dedicated Andy Warhol ‘artist room’ with works dating from the 1960s through to the last years of the artist’s life, in the late 1980s.
Highlights include the iconic six-part multiple Skulls (1976) and the multi part painting Self-Portrait (Strangulation) (1978) as well as the celebrated four-part mural-size work of 1986, Camouflage. Portraits and posters of May Ray (1967), Mick Jagger (1980), Gilbert and George (1975), and Muhammad Ali (1978) reveal Warhol’s enduring fascination with glamour, celebrity and contemporary icons.
Film posters provide new insights into the breadth and depth of the artist’s career as well as his eye-catching ability as a graphic artist.

This selection of work is taken from the Anthony d’Offay donation, known as ARTIST ROOMS a new national collection of international contemporary art managed by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland.
This exhibition is the first in a series of exciting and innovative ARTIST ROOMS exhibitions taking place across the UK throughout 2009.
New Art Gallery Walsall, will be showing a selection of Andy Warhol’s early drawings from 15 May – 7 July 2009. For more information please visit New Art Gallery Walsall’s website.
